Not quite There are a few "bank holidays" in England throughout the year, but they aren't really anything to do with banks anymore. They call them that because they were established in law under the "Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1974". They are days when most businesses are closed (although shops can open if they want). There isn't any special reason for the holiday, they aren't really celebrating anything - but I am glad we have them! That sounds like fun! Did you catch any fish? is just unusual...I must admit I never thought is possible a day off without reason... They're a strange lot over here and do silly things like that! The patron saint of England is St. George and we do have a St. George's Day... but it is not a holiday and no one ever celebrates it! The other parts of the United Kingdom all have their own patron saints (Wales has St. David, Scotland has St. Andrew, Ireland has St. Patrick) and they all celebrate their days, but not us...
