Spending time with family and friends, art, paintings and sculptures, books, history, heraldry, exploring medieval or gothic churches, music, museums, more books, science, building up my element collection, climbing, sailing, archery and fencing, even more books, the countryside, travelling, wine, the odd book or two . . . and occasionally, just now and then, even computers!

  • 2008 - NYK Logistics; Payroll Analyst and Finance Officer – Three month temporary role dealing with several weekly payrolls - internal and agency - for 500+ staff, together with associated finance functions using the CODA Financials system. Liaison with HMRC and the resolution of tax queries on behalf of employees and temps. General purchase ledger duties including invoice processing and purchase order maintenance. Stationery ordering and administration together with the provision of HR support and management of the ‘TNA’ time and attendance system.
  • 2000-2007 - Moorepay Ltd; Payroll Specialist, Health & Safety Site Manager – Duties included; Managing a portfolio of high-net-worth and celebrity client payrolls involving all aspects of gross to net calculations including manual calculations; processing all statutory leave types including SSP, SMP, SAP and SPP calculations; administering attachment and deduction from earning orders; End-of-year returns (P35, P14, P60) and online filing; reconciliations, pension returns and P11D; dealing with overpayments, underpayments, adjustments and recoveries; processing remittances to HMRC both manually and using BACS; liaison with HMRC over document issue and all correspondence; maintaining HR databases and associated records; data input and verification.Roles and responsibilities also included: Health and Safety Site Manager, Fire Marshal, Major Incident Co-ordinator, Disaster Recovery Team Leader, Project Manager; IT Systems Site Manager and QMS Administrator. Provision of management support at national level to other operational offices in both Stockport and Newcastle.
  • 1998-2000 - HM Inland Revenue; Revenue Assistant (Compliance) – Providing administrative and support services to the Compliance Unit. Capture of Self-Assessment Tax Returns; investigating and responding to tax inquiries; handling post; ordering and maintaining supplies of forms and stationery; the provision of telephony and switchboard cover. Responsibilities also included serving as Health and Safety Officer carrying out risk assessments and Fire Marshal.
  • 1997-1998 - Flower Services; Finance Manager – Book-keeping, dealing with sales and purchase ledger using Sage Sterling, invoice matching, data input, reconciliation, general office management and administrative support to the site manager. Responsibilities also included serving as Data Protection Officer, Health and Safety Officer and Fire Marshal.
  • 1996-1997 - Maritime Housing Association; Admin Officer Managed Lettings – All aspects of administrative support, dealing with both landlord and tenant inquiries, repair reports, complaints, rent arrears, debtor tracing, police liaison and the issue of legal proceedings.
Technical Knowledge and Specialist Skills

Specialist skills and technical expertise includes but is not limited to an exhaustive knowledge and practical experience of data protection and freedom of information legislation, casework and appeals; Information security, Privacy and Electronic Communications legislation. Policy development and staff training; Recruitment - from advertising, through short listing to interviewing; Performance management, target setting and subsequent evaluation; The provision of employment law advice and guidance to senior management and legal advice in handling claims and issuing counter-claims in court. Staff vetting, personnel screening and evaluation; misconduct, disciplinary and other investigations. Health, safety and fire precautions, DSE, WEEE, COSHH, Risk assessment; Disaster recovery and contingency planning; Quality assurance, quality management, BSI systems and auditing; IT network administration, support and troubleshooting and system security; Debtor tracing, debt recovery and the issue of legal proceedings.

Training provided by Liverpool City Council and their external consultants includes: Employment Law, Performance Management, Grievance, Dismissal and Redundancy procedures, Budget Control and Financial Management, Recruitment and staff selection including interview techniques, personnel screening, evaluation and vetting; safer recruitment practices, safeguarding children and vulnerable people in care, together with being privately trained in all aspects of IT support with particular emphasis on ‘Windows Security’.

Personal Profile and Qualities

Has served as Vice-Chair of Governors at a Liverpool primary school since 2001 having employer responsibility for over 40 full time staff, 25 part time and casual staff, and a duty of care for 287 children. Together with managing a budget in excess of 1.4 million pounds in the current financial year and fulfilling all of the HR responsibilities for those staff. Serves as chairman of Independent Appeal Panels for Liverpool City Council, Sefton and Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Councils and the Archdiocese of Liverpool. Holds office as Secretary and Trustee of the 'Linda Harris Memorial Fund'. Provides private tax advice and is registered with HMRC as an agent dealing with PAYE, Self-Assessment and Corporation Tax together with carrying out work for clients under Sections 15 and 16 of the Audit Commission Act 1998. Is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office as a Data Controller. Has represented friends and colleagues in private court cases and works as a consultant at several internationally acclaimed Internet forums which specialize in the removal of computer viruses and offer IT support at all levels to people all over the world. Has worked on website design projects, most recently for a Consultant Psychologist in Merseyside and has recently served as part of a group involved in policy review for Merseyside Police. Holds a full, clean driving licence.

Has much experience of dealing at high levels across both the public and private sectors.
